We’re reaching back a few years in film history to do this one. Isn’t it crazy that the Fellowship of the Ring is already thirteen years old? I’m doing this one now because it’s rather simple and easy, and I’m graduating tomorrow(!) so I don’t have a whole lot of time to film hair tutorials. I was actually at a beach house for this video, not my dorm, because I was on Senior Week in San Diego (yay good lighting!) Also, Arwen has been requested a lot, so here you go!
This hairstyle is essentially just three fishtail braids falling down the back of the head. What makes it look interesting is the specific hair you use for these braids. If you know how to fishtail braid, you’ll be golden. And if you don’t, it’s a fairly easy braid. There are brief instructions for it in this video, but if you need more guidance, there are an endless number of “how to fishtail braid” videos on youtube and at least one is bound to be useful to you.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Hair Length: at least collar bone length
Materials: three small hair elastics
Skills needed: Fishtail braid
Time cost: 10-40 minutes
Ideal hairtype: straight or wavy
Step 1) Pick up a triangle of hair on top of your head, with the corners being the two widest parts of your forehead, and about halfway back along the top of your head.
Step 2) Split this triangle in half, and cross the halves.
Step 3) With one half, bring it to the opposite corner of the back top of your head (otherwise known as the crown of your head), add in some hair from there, also add in some hair from your front hairline on that same side, and then fishtail braid all the hair you’re holding.
Step 4) Repeat with the other half of the triangle (add in hair at the opposite corner of your crown, add hair from your front hairline, and fishtail braid to the ends).
Step 5) Pick up the remaining crown hair between these two braids, and fishtail that hair to the ends.
